srael was a very small society during the biblical era and was always surrounded by other peoples who were all idol worshipers. That is why the Bible describes Israel as a chosen people (the year of Soula) (the beloved people), the only nation to have a contract with God through the covenant. This special relationship is referred to as “election” of Israel, which carries a very high responsibility with the corresponding sanctions and sanctions: “Only you have chosen among all the tribes of the earth, for this I will punish you for all your sins” (Amos 2: 3). Israel's special status was not the result of special power or even of genuine merit; it was the act of divine love and fulfillment of the covenant given to Abraham and his ancestors and the book of Deuteronomy expresses this point clearly.
״ For you are a holy people to the Lord. You have chosen the Lord among all the peoples of the earth to be his own people. The Lord has not favored you and chosen you because you are more numerous than all the other peoples. You are the least number of nations. But from His love and to preserve the oath which I swear to your fathers (Deuteronomy 7: 6-8).
Despite Israel's special status in its relationship with God, a number of its neighbors have more advanced material civilizations that Israel has attracted. The Bible sometimes describes Israel as being deceived by its neighbors and their gods, because in ancient times it required the worship of their gods.
